Moving ahead in life requires one to keep moving and moving forward. Thus becoming an individual with immense value is a journey; a process of unending growth. One must be willing to follow the growth curve no matter how steep it may seem.

The S-Curve (Growth Curve)— Mark Truelson

Moving ahead is a function of knowledge of what one wants to achieve or become. Therefore, one should consistently seek relevant knowledge to generate the required disciplines to keep forging ahead.

In your journey of becoming the better version of yourself, you must ensure you consistently digest information that will upgrade you everyday.

The keywords here are consistently and everyday.

Understanding these keyword are paramount for your development.

In order for you to keep pacing positively onward, you must develop these important skills below:

  1. Consistency

Consistency is basically sticking with a process. This is what develops the habits that defines us. We are creatures of habits and as such, we are the sum total of the inputs of our habits. Don’t mistake consistency for hardwork or doing so much in a short timeframe. Consistency is simply and really doing what you ought to keep advancing when you have to do it.

What do I mean? Consistency is putting in the little work even when you don’t have the time. Research shows that that people who are consistent always hit their goals. So if you want to get to that level you envisage, learn the art of consistency. It will take you farther than a jet flight and Tesla’s SpaceX starship.

The next skill you must develop is Time Management.

2. Time Management
Time is the most valuable asset given to all individual. We all have 24 hours per day but some people manage to achieve all they want to achieve in a day while others fail at achieving their daily goals.

Most times, people think it’s about competence or lack of skills. The truth is that most people don’t understand the value of time and the relationship between time and consistency.

Time Management is a paramount skill to develop as it will set you on a focused plain and help you to set your course in order and align your strategies and goals in the right sequence.

If you must develop any skill, you should and must develop Consistency and Time Management..

In addition to these, I will add another skill that is most essential and crucial in our journey of self development.

3. The Passion to Become
While this doesn’t sound like a skill, I will debate on any platform that it is a skill because Passion can be learnt, developed, transfused, infused, and transferred in any degree and across different dimensions.

One crucial word in this phrase “The Passion to Become” is of course “Become”.

You must develop the Passion to become and not just to know or earn but rather to become because this is where embodiment of the Big Picture; the expression of the endpoint from the beginning.

This Passion will keep you burning and focused such that you will know how to apply time management and consistency in your pursuit of becoming.

4. Collaboration and Teamwork

In this digital world, you cannot do without teamwork and collaboration. In whatever field you find yourself, you cannot be able to carry out all the tasks required to get a project to move from idealation to commissioning phase. You need to work with people from diverse backgrounds and across different time lines.

To paint a picture of how important Collaboration and Teamwork are, God said “Let US create man in OUR image and likeness.” The very first form of work was done in collaboration. If you want to grow, collaboration is a must have skill — Richards Okiemute.

Personally, techies spent each day solving problems for clients all over the world and I do this through collaboration and teamwork. One minute we are on the call/meeting with a colleague in Vietnam, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, United State of America, South Africa, etc. solving different problems and strategizing.

5. Communication

No matter how excellent your codes are or how perfect your softwares are, they must be able to communicate their purpose and values. Without communication, nothing ever gets done. We all need people to understand the problem our products are solving, the value they have to offer, the soundness our ideas and propositions.

For me, communication is the most important skill on earth for without it you would be stuck and lost in a world filled with endless possibilities.

Please, no matter how good you are at writing codes with all the best Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA), ensure you create a balance. Make it your goal to build your communication skills as you build other parts of your life.

Take it from me, your communication skills can take you places your technical skills might not be able to take you to.

In conclusion, to become relevant in today’s world, you must develop these aforementioned skills. Do not grow only in one part like coding/programming alone rather grow laterally and spread your knowledge and competence into different areas to become well developed and shaped for the future.

Thanks for reading.
